What to pack for a high-country fly-fishing day
We provide the rods, waders, and flies, so guests sometimes ask what’s actually left for them to bring. The honest answer is: not much, but the few things you do bring matter a lot when you’re at 10,000 feet and the weather turns on a dime.
The short list
- Layers you can add and shed: a sun shirt, a fleece, and a packable rain shell
- Polarized sunglasses; they cut glare and let you actually see the fish
- A brimmed hat and real sunscreen; the alpine sun is no joke
- A water bottle and any snacks or medications you need
- Sturdy shoes for the walk in; we’ll hand you wading boots at the water
The mountains write their own weather, and a bluebird morning can give way to a hail squall by two o’clock. Pack for the day you hope for and the day you might get, and you’ll never be miserable.
